I’m buying a new PC with Windows 7 to run the software for my AP audio analyzer. Which version of Windows 7 should I choose, 32-bit or 64-bit?
APx500, AP2700, and ATS software all run normally with any 32-bit version of Windows 7.
They also run under the 64-bit versions of Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise, using XP Mode. More information on XP Mode is available in the Windows Virtual PC area of the Microsoft website. The instrument must be connected to the PC using the USB interface—the PCI, PCIE, and PCMCIA APIB interface adapters can not be used. A USB-APIB Adapter for the System Two Cascade, Cascade Plus, 2700 Series, and ATS-2 instruments may be purchased from AP.
APx500 works normally in XP mode but runs slightly slower. Before using APx, you need to tell the XP Mode virtual machine to "attach" the USB device (i.e., to capture it for the VM's usage). Closing APx automatically releases the APx USB device from the VM.
AP2700 works normally in XP Mode, with the exception of the OPT-2711 Dolby Digital Generator option. The OPT-2711, which uses a USB interface, appears to be recognized in the Windows Device Manager. However, when you run the AP2700 software, an error message on the IEC 61937 panel indicates that the Dolby Digital hardware is not found. When you close the AP2700 software, you will see a Windows error message ("AP2700 3.30 has encountered a problem and needs to close.")—this can safely be ignored.
The ATS software works normally in XP Mode.
