Error message: "The connection to the instrument was lost."

Question:

Sometimes while using my APx500 software, I get an error message which reads “The connection to the instrument was lost.” What causes this to happen?

Answer:

This error message may be displayed under the following conditions:

  1. the USB connection from the host PC to the APx hardware is disconnected
  2. the AC power to the APx analyzer is interrupted
  3. non-conformance to minimum required system specifications: 2 GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, USB 2.0
  4. poor quality USB cable and/or excessive cable length (5m or about 16’ max length)
